A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

A collection of images, some that remind us why we continue to fight for the preservation of our culture and our community and some that inspire us to leave the world a better place

The Historic Hanalei Bridge built in 1912 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places is the gateway to the north shore. Our bridge sets the tone for drivers entering the slower pace and scale of  Route 560, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As a visitor’s first encounter with Route 560, the bridge allows drivers to slow down, look and listen.... they have entered a special place.

1975 Hawaii Department of Transportation design for the replacement of the Historic Hanalei Bridge. Thankfully, strong, broad based community opposition prevented this massive cement highway from being built, and ultimately led to the preservation of the historic Hanalei Bridge.

The Hanalei Pier originally built in 1892 has been a gathering place for our community for over 100 years. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979
